General Information & Tips

It is our responsibility to advise you that St. Lucia like many other tourist destinations have not been spared the ills of development, and therefore we offer some useful tips that will serve you as a guide.

  • Exercise the same caution, as you would do in your homeland.
  • Use facilities offered at your hotel for safe keeping of valuables. This service is usually free.
  • It is suggested that you carry minimum cash as credit cards are generally accepted in most business places.
  • Always establish taxi fare with taxi driver before venturing out. Hotel taxis are highly recommended, especially at nights.
  • All Tourism taxis carry a red license plate with the letters TX e.g. TX 314
  • All beaches on the island are public, therefore nude swimming or sunbathing is prohibited. Topless swimming or sunbathing is not encouraged.
  • All forms of illicit drugs are strictly prohibited and penalties are severe, so help us keep St. Lucia drug free.
  • When visiting our various public business places or any of our towns and villages, you should be properly attired. Swimwear is NOT acceptable.
  • When taking photographs of residents whether on the beach, the vegetable market or elsewhere, it is polite to seek their permission. In most cases they will be delighted to do so.
  • The local currency is Eastern Caribbean Dollar or $EC in short. The exchange rate is EC$2.67 to US$1.00.
  • All international visitors are required to pay a departure tax of EC$54.00 or US$21.00.
